Oromia Coffee Farmers Cooperative Union was established in June 1999 in Ethiopia, the land of origin for Arabica Coffee. The Union has 35 cooperatives and about 23,000 members, which equals about 100,000 families. The objectives of the Oromia Coffee Farmers Cooperative Union are:

- To improve the farmers income.

- To maintain the quality of coffee production.

- To improve and mantain the sustainability of coffee industry.

- To improve quality and productivity of Ethiopian Coffee.

- To regulate local market.

- To provide farmer with the best services and reliability to our clients.

All six varieties of our coffee are grown in HighLands at an altitude between 1.500 and 2.000 meters over sea level. These coffees have the following cup characteristics:

Yirgacheffe: Rich coffee, medium bodied with tart acidity and florar aroma.
Sidamo: Pleasantly sweet, balanced acidity and round cup flavor.
Limu: Excelent balanced flavor with good acidity and medium body.
Lekemptl: Light acidity, rich, balanced cup with a long finish.
Harrar: Uniquely fruity, spicy flavor, medium acidity and heavy body.

Coffees available:

The wet processed:
Limu, Sidamo, Yirgacheffe and Leqemt.
The dry processed: Jimma-5, Sidamo-4, Neqemte-5 and Harar-5.

Oromia's coffee is heirloom, forest-grown, organic,bird-friendly and small farmer produced. Ethiopia's coffee trees define specialty coffee. Ethiopia is the origin of Arabica and has over 3,000 indigenous varieties.
Herbicided, insecticides and chemical fertilizers are not used in cultivating the Union's small farmer's coffee. Harvest is done by hand and organic compost is used to increase the soil's fertility.

All 35 cooperatives have been oficially organic certified by theGerman Agency BCS Oko-garantie. From these 35

cooperatives, 8 have also been listed by Max Havelaar (FLO) for Fair Trade Purposes.

Oromia's Mission: To make small producers economically self-sufficient and their households food secure through the strength of a privately owned and democratically controlled coffee producer's cooperative union.

Dulecha Gobena - Chairman, Kilenso Resa Cooperative, Yirgachefe: The Kilenso Resa Cooperative was established in 1987 en has 673 members. This year they were able to process 11 trucks of coffee.

Miju Adula, Chairman Kilenso Mokonisa Cooperative:“We used to sell our coffee to exporters who would cheat us and sometimes they did not pay us at all. Now we know the value of our coffee and we receive profits from the coffee sold by the Union".
